AgHS Victory for Hemp Feed in Montana!

It’s a proud day for hemp grain and fiber, and a major step forward for Hemp as animal feed!

Today, on behalf of IND Hemp, AgHS secured final passage of HB 396 in Montana.

  1. Clarifies hemp and substances derived from hemp are included in the definition of commercial feed.

  2. Provides authority for hemp and substances derived from hemp for use as commercial feed for pets, specialty pets, or horses upon enactment.

  3. For other livestock, effectiveness contingent upon food and drug administration approval of hemp or any substance derived from hemp as an approved additive or defined ingredient in animal food or medicated feed for livestock.

HB 396 received overwhelming support through the Montana Legislature with near-unanimous passage!

  1. Passed unanimously (17-0) out of the House Committee on Agriculture (February 25, 2021) with “Do Pass as Amended” recommendation.

  2. Second reading passed unanimously (100-0) on the House floor (March 1, 2021).

  3. Third reading passed 98-1 on the House floor (March 2, 2021).

  4. Concurred unanimously (11-0) out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (March 16, 2021).

  5. Second reading passed unanimously (50-0) on the Senate floor (March 19, 2021).

  6. Third reading passed unanimously (49-0) on the Senate floor (March 22, 2021).

We applaud IND Hemp President Ken Elliott and Vice President Morgan Elliott for their excellent leadership for Montana Hemp and for advancing the goals of the Hemp Feed Coalition
