Animal Feed Bill

Bill Advancing Hemp as Animal Feed Introduced in Senate Today

We're happy to report that our lobbying efforts and industry collaborations have resulted in big steps being taken to advance hemp as animal feed, food, and supplements! The Hemp Access and Consumer Safety Act introduced today by Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Rand Paul (R-KY) and collaborated on by industry stakeholders throughout the country would not only clear up issues the hemp cannabinoid sector continues to face with FDA, but would lay the foundation for a huge new sector of the hemp economy to open up nationally- hemp as animal feed! AgHS teamed up with IND Hemp in Montana and successfully passed HB 396, which clarified hemp and substances derived from hemp are included in the definition of animal feed for pets, specialty pets, and horses! (Read more here) We are excited to see this expansion of hemp's market possibilities being taken up at the federal level and what that means for hemp as an agricultural commodity. "We are grateful for the continued leadership of Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Rand Paul (R-KY) in advancing hemp policy, creating economic opportunities and broadening protections for our industry stakeholders. This bill is an important step forward not only for the cannabinoid sector, but for the grain and fiber sectors investing in infrastructure to open the food, animal feed, and supplements markets." - Courtney N. Moran, LL.M. This is what we do at AgHS: Help create the legislative framework that supports YOUR success! Join us in the next steps for the industry as we work towards cash-crop commodity status for hemp!
