New Democratic Coalition Endorses Industrial Hemp Act of 2023

The New Democratic Coalition is a group of "nearly 100 pragmatic House Democrats who work across the aisle and across the Capitol to advance innovative, inclusive, and forward-looking policies" and seeks to be "united behind a mission to build an economy that works for every American." The Coalition recently released a list of endorsed legislation from their Farm Bill Task Force, led by Chair Rep. Kim Shrier (D-WA), and co-chairs Reps. Jim Costa (D-CA) and Don Davis (D-NC).

The Coalition included an endorsement of the IHA as a way to meet one of their five core priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill: "Provide farmers, ranchers, and other landowners who feed and fuel our nation with certainty from diversified income streams and greater support to beginner, young, and socially disadvantaged producers." The Coalition described the bipartisan-supported IHA as a way to "create a separate classification for industrial hemp and establish a framework that punishes bad actors."

You can read the full list of endorsements here, and the full text of the Industrial Hemp Act of 2023, H.R. 3755, here.
